This hybrid selection is more tolerant of summer heat and winter cold than the annual pansy types. Excellent for massing, edging, rock gardens, and in containers. Nice for combining with spring flowering bulbs. Trim plants back by half in early June. This variety has little flowers in a pleasing light blue and cream combination. Nice compact habit. Sometimes these will flower all winter in climates with mild weather. This gorgeous new viola has been produced using some of the very best and most expensive dwarf violas on the market as parents. The flowers will vary from plant to plant, as ornamental violas do, but almost all of them will have a cream or white face with a distinctive blue or purple edging. And one or two surprises as well!
Viola Compact V. Hybrida is alternately called Horned Violet or Johnny Jump-Up. The Sorbet Series contain Tricolor patterns with cap, face, whiskers and eye colours and are compact early bloomers. Sorbet Blue Heaven Pansy produces blooms of blue with dark blue whiskers and a yellow eye.
Pansies are biennials typically grown as cool weather annuals. Loving the spring and early summer in the north and the fall and winter in zone 7 and higher. Pansies are useful in borders, edging, containers and other small places that like a pop of color. Pansies appreciate slightly acid, loose, rich soil. They make nice cut flowers for tiny vases. Flowers are edible. Jump-Ups grow 4-8" tall.
