I just Had to take a photo of this cute busy bumble bee, covered from head to toe in pollen, helping to make my gardens what they are!
This is a splendid Cosmos variety to produce a mass of bright sunny colour in your borders or in containers on your patio. Forming naturally compact, floriferous, globe-shaped plants, it bears over an extended period gorgeous large blooms in a bright and intensive golden lemon-yellow colour set off by a darker golden eye. Very well branched and durable; free flowering. A little bit different from other Cosmos varieties but just as easy to grow, Cosmos sulphureus comes in many different shades of orange and yellow.
The many-branched stems of this low-growing, extra dwarf (8 in/20 cm) gem are lined with ferny, deeply divided, rich green foliage, and are topped throughout summer with numerous1.5 in/3.6 cm semi-double, clear golden-yellow daisies. The flowers are composed of broad yet delicate, somewhat pleated ray petals surrounding bright yellow centers blooming from May until fall, and are followed by sharp, star-like clusters of brown seeds. Butterflies will visit and flutter among the bright blooms.
Uniquely short in stature, this cultivar is a form of golden cosmos, a tall, annual species native to fields and open areas of Mexico. ‘Limara Lemon’ is ideal for use in containers, as a bedding annual, or for edging well-drained mixed borders.
Cosmos, sometimes known as the Mexican aster, is perennial in its native home but it’s not hardy enough for our cooler climate and so in Canada and Britain it is grown as an annual. Cosmos is easy to grow from seed, performs well in containers or bedding schemes and comes in a dazzling array of colours, heights and flower types making it a firm favourite of both amateur and professional gardeners. Easy to grow, preferring poor soils, it likes partial shade.
