I think this picotee carnation is my favourite colouring. It was fun photographing it, especially in macro form. From a distance, the main colour of the flower looks white. But closer up, the white is a soft creamy colour with a hint of pink or even flesh pink. Maybe this is due to the delicate, yet strong picotee outline on each petal in a colour of dark red wine that has a hint of bright fuchsia and dark purple, depending on the light. The outline defines each petal's jagged edges with gentle brushstrokes and the dots and dashes look like the paintbrush was given a gentle shake, so as not to be overwhelming or bleed into and muddy the base colour. The result is a delicate, well-defined and crisp flower.
Carnation Chabaud Picotee Mix Dianthus Caryophyllus is a short-lived perennial that may be grown as an annual. Carnation Chabaud Picotee seeds are one of the fastest seeds to germinate. This Dianthus grows 24 inches tall and forms clamping foliage with strong flower stems. Carnation Picotee Mix is a wide mix of large, fully double, sweetly scented Carnation flowers that are colored in shades of red, pink, violet, crimson, salmon, white and yellow and are striped or edged in radiant contrasting tones. Carnation Picotee has a long bloom period from summer to frost, and its very showy flowers are eye-catching.
Carnation Chabaud Picotee Mix is a long time favorite flower for growing in cutting gardens. Carnation is also a superb border plant, and looks fabulous in mass planting. Dianthus Caryophyllus seeds do not require any special treatment prior sowing. Carnation grows best in full sun but the plant tolerates partial shade and adapts to various soil conditions, preferring moist, well-drained soil. Carnation Chabaud has long flower stems that make this flower excellent for cutting and arranging in fresh bouquets.
With a history that dates back more than 2,000 years, it's not surprising that carnations are rich with symbolism, mythology and even debate. While some scholars suggest that their name comes from the word "corone" (flower garlands) or "coronation" because of its use in Greek ceremonial crowns, others propose that it's derived from from the Latin "carnis" (flesh) referring to the flower's original pinkish-hued color or "incarnacyon" (incarnation), referring to the incarnation of God-made flesh.
Today, carnations can be found in a wide range of colors, and while in general they express love, fascination and distinction, virtually every color carries a unique and rich association. White carnations suggest pure love and good luck, light red symbolizes admiration, while dark red represents deep love and affection. Purple carnations imply capriciousness, and pink carnations carry the greatest significance, beginning with the belief that they first appeared on earth from the Virgin Mary's tears – making them the symbol of a mother's undying love.
