Exacum ‘Kandy’ is a tropical beauty, producing profusion of gorgeous flowers throughout the spring and summer months that cannot be overlooked! The color on this one is hard to believe! Simple but striking features are the compact form, the abundance of blooming flowers and the stability of the unique flower color. It flowers at its best, when kept as a patio plant. Preferably in a spot that is either well protected or is only receiving sun in early morning or from late afternoon.
Exacum trinervium is native or endemic to Sri Lanka (Ceylon), and some wikipedia accounts suggest that it is threatened in nature. Exacum trinervium is an herbaceous species usually found in rocky sloping ground at high elevations. These plants are members of the gentian family. The cultivar name 'Kandy' will probably suggest "eye candy" to some people, others will probably assume it's one of these annoying misspellings which attempt to be cute, but I'll bet it is a pun on an ancient name of Ceylon: the Kingdom of Kandy.
