Description
This piece has been featured in the FAA Group, "Visions of Spring - Glances of Summer".
These tiny daffodils are cute with their creamy white petals that are sunny yellow at their base with egg yolk yellow cups that are spilling over with extra balls and ruffles of creamy white petals at their centre, crowded in with golden orange pollen laden anthers. With two or three miniature flowers hanging on hinged stems, several bulbs in a cluster augment their cheery disposition. They truly live up to their name, spreading cheerfulness throughout the garden.
Cheerfulness is classified as (4W-Y) which means it is a Division 4 Narcissus of Double Daffodil Cultivars, the perianth segments (petals) are white and the corona (cup) is yellow.
Cheerfulness - creamy white, flowers with yellow flecks in its rose-like center; this Heirloom cultivar has 2-3 florets per stem and has a sweet, musky fragrance; good perennializer; 1923; 14'-16'; late; zones 4-9.
Daffodils are the most cost effective, pest-free perennial plants available and make wonderful companions with other bulbs, perennials, annuals and flowering shrubs. They grow in almost all areas of the United States as long as there is a discernible winter. They are pest-free and when given ample sunlight, water and proper nutrition, will provide early spring color for many years. They are divided into 13 divisions according to their flower shape and heritage. Daffodils should be planted in full sun or at least 6 hours a day of sunlight after the leaves are on the trees and should be planted 3x the height of their bulb deep (3"-8"). The ADS defines DIVISION 4 - DOUBLE as: "One or more flowers to a stem, with a doubling of the perianth segments or the corona or both". Camellia or roselike flowers; with single or multiple blooms; good for shows, showy gardens, picking and bedding; bulb size 16+ cm unless otherwise noted; 4-5 per sq. ft. Zones vary.
