Description
This truly enchanting Phlox is not your typical phlox with its fringed, star-shaped flowers defined with jagged edges and pointed swallowtail butterfly tails, giving this phlox its distinctive look, setting it apart from other typical garden bed varieties. The bright pinky purple colour looks boldly painted on with highlights of fuchsia pink and trimmed in white encircling a white eye. As the flower ages, that white eye becomes outlined with a soft bluish purple. And on any given day the colour appears as if the paint is peeling like what you see on reclaimed wooden boards. The plant is delicate and lacy but its statement is bold.
Dwarf Twinkling Beauty Mix Phlox (Phlox drummondii cuspidata) intricate jewels of colour which sparkle in star-shaped, bi-coloured flowers. Dazzling the garden in shades of pink, red, purple and white, Twinkle Mix will offer blooms throughout the summer and early fall months.
It is an annual, growing from seed each year. The branches have sharp, pointed, lengthy, ciliated leaves with rounded flowers. The flowers are single or double, with lightly scented, flat, star-shaped petals. The flowers mature to 2 to 3 cm (3/4 to 1 1/4 in ) in diameter. It tolerates cold weather well, but requires plentiful watering and dislikes drought, wind and heat. It is a prolific flowering garden favourite. Excellent planted in beds, containers, planters, window boxes or borders and thrives in hot, sandy soils. Grow 6-8 inches high and 8-10 inches wide.
Phlox drummondii (commonly annual phlox or Drummond's phlox) is a flowering plant in the genus Phlox of the family Polemoniaceae. Native to Texas, it is also widely distributed in the southeastern United States, especially along public highways. P. drummondii is often used as an ornamental plant. The flowers have a wide range of colours "from white and cream through pinks, lilacs, roses, purples and reds, to almost black". Phlox drummondii is named after Scottish botanist Thomas Drummond, who sent it and a variety of other plant samples back to Britain following his 1833–1835 expedition to Texas.
