Description
Pelargonium peltatum is a species of pelargonium known by the common names ivy-leaf geranium and cascading geranium. It is native to southern Africa, particularly South Africa. It is commonly grown as an ornamental plant. This is a subshrub which can reach two meters in height, its branches prostrate, spreading, trailing, or climbing. The thin, somewhat succulent leaves are peltate, their petioles attached at the middle of the ivy-shaped leaf blades. The inflorescence is an umbel of 2 to 9 flowers, with 5 dark-streaked or marked petals each up to 2 centimeters long. The smaller leaves of the plant are edible, tasting sour and astringent.
The Blizzard Dark Red Ivy Geranium plant produces an abundance of single, retro-red blossoms with widespread petals. The foliage is ivy-like, rounded and lobed and a pleasing medium-green. The bushy, mounding, semi-trailing habit results in a well-shaped ivy geranium plant with just the right amount of cascade for containers, hanging baskets or window and deck boxes, even on beach houses, where its tolerance to salt withstands ocean climates. Vigorous plants with excellent branching and outstanding heat tolerance. Features huge self-cleaning single flowers in a wide assortment of bright colors. Unmatched outdoor performance with a solid mass of color all summer long - the #1 choice for hot humid climates. There are currently five colours in the Blizzard series: Blue Blizzard, Red Blizzard, Dark Red Blizzard, Pink Blizzard and White Blizzard.
