Description
This piece has been featured in the FAA Groups "Colorful Lilies" and "Yellow Mellow".
Lilium (members of which are true lilies) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers. Lilies are a group of flowering plants which are important in culture and literature in much of the world. Most species are native to the temperate northern hemisphere, though their range extends into the northern subtropics. Many other plants have "lily" in their common name but are not related to true lilies.
‘Fata Morgana’ is a Division I Asiatic hybrid lily. Asiatic hybrids are known for their large, often non-fragrant flowers (4-6” wide), wide range of colors and early summer bloom (Asiatic lilies are among the first of the lilies to bloom). ‘Fata Morgana’ is an Asiatic double-flowered form that features bright yellow double flowers with 5-7 flowers per stem. Blooms on rigid stems rising 2-3’ tall. Excellent fresh cut flower.
Layer upon layer of primrose-yellow petals with lovely dark red speckling. Very distinctive, up-facing flower produces the brightest yellow color ever. All the fabulous attributes of regular Asiatics, but with a fancier, double flower. As a cut flower, they are even longer lasting than their counterparts, with no anthers and messy pollen to cope with. Asiatic lilies produce no scent which makes them great for allergenic sufferers!
