Description
Allium are deciduous bulbous herbaceous perennials with a strong onion or garlic scent, linear, strap-shaped or cylindrical basal leaves soon withering and small pendulous star-shaped or bell-shaped flowers in a fragrant umbel on a leafless stem.
A. flavum (a.k.a.: Allium tauricum, Yellow Fireworks Allium or Small Yellow Onion) has small, bell-shaped, lemon to golden-yellow quarter sized flowers in mid to early summer.
Ornamental onions perform beautifully, blooming late spring through early summer; they add a different, spectacular or architectural dimension to the garden; many suitable for Heirloom gardens and sunny, well-drained meadow; also wonderful cut and dried flowers; Giant (volleyball-softball), 1 per sq. ft.; Large (baseball-tennis ball), 5 per sq. ft.; Small(golf ball - marble), 10 per sq. ft.
