Description
Cleome hasslerana is a.k.a. Spider Flower, Spider Legs, Grandfather's Whiskers, Rocky Mountain Beeplant and Stinking Clover because it smells like a skunk.
It is an annual known for its exceedingly long seedpods. They develop below the flowers as bloom progresses upward on the stalk to give the plants a spidery look, as do the projecting stamens of the flowers. Cleome flowers, with many opening at once, grow in airy racemes, or clusters of flowers, 6-8 in diameter.
The Sparkler Series is a newer strain with 4-6" spidery blooms and short, bushy 3.5-4' height which makes them ideal for containers. This series is available in red, white, lavender and pink blush.
