Description
The word Bon Bini means "welcome" in the Papimiento language. The language itself more describes this flower that welcome does. A crazy mix of words from the Arawak Indian dialect, Spanish, Dutch, along with a confusing mixture of African dialects with a little Portuguese, English, and a smidge of French thrown in, makes for one crazy language, almost as crazy as this Bon Bini and its crazy color combination. Crazy yes, but it all works!
This is a very striking as well as attention grabbing lily to say the least. It has huge, upward facing creamy ivory white flowers, marked with a delicate halo of bold cerise pink and yellow and light lime green heart. The delicate pink tracing outlining or "halo" in the center of each petal tends to fade in hot, direct sun. It is best planted in dappled sun throughout the day or light afternoon shade. These wide, bowl-shaped flowers are borne in succession from mid- to late-summer on sturdy stems lined with lance-shaped green foliage. 3 to 4 Feet or taller. July Flowering. Fragrant.
Orienpet lillies (lilium orienpet) are an American hybrid created from crossing the Oriental and Trumpet lillies. This combination has resulted in a lily that is considered to be better than either of the parent plants. The Orienpet Lily is disease resistant and easily tolerates heat but not direct hot sun, humidity, and cold. Preferring dappled sunlight or morning sun and afternoon shade, they come in bold shades of red, orange, burgundy, and gold but are also available in pastel shades of white, pink, peach, and soft yellows, and can be very fragrant! If you like a flower that will create a lot of conversation and second looks, this is the one for you! Blooming from mid-July to mid-August. The "Garden Pleasure" lily bears white flowers with soft red strokes.
These outstanding flowers will amaze you with massive upward facing flowers, delicate fragrance and excellent relibility! Large sturdy stems do not require staking. They grow to a height of 3-4' the first year, 5-6' the second and to an astonishing 6-8' tall in the third year! Every plant bears 20 to 30 flowers after 3 years and keeps its fresh green foliage during the entire blooming period.
