Description
This piece has been featured in the FAA Group, "Floral Photography and Art".
Defying normal Asiatic Lily shape and form with unusual shorter petals, the waxy petalled blooms have an almost tufted appearance, protruding pistils, stamens and anthers held well above the bloom. Apricot Fudge has upright semi-double flowers - very unusual, almost rose-like eye-catching flower form; elegant, soft peach to warm caramel-appricot coloration with a warm sunshine glow and a light fragrance; 2'-3'; whz 4-8. It's buds are very tulip-like. The lilies in this group are a result of much work in laboratories and fields to cross Asiatic Lilies with Longiflorum (Easter Lily) types. Most bloom early, have fragrance and great substance (like the Longiflorum types), but are outfacing like Asiatic Lilies. They show strength, disease resistance and tolerance to viruses, which make them exceptional for the garden, containers and also for cut flowers; among the earliest to bloom; 2-3 per sq. ft.; 16/18+cm; 2'-3'; whz 4-8.
Our pollinators are so important to the sustainability of our gardens and food crops for insect and birds and if each of us participates in healthy gardening practices and chooses some of the pollinator attracting plants, we can collectively make a HUGE difference. Beloved by butterflies and hummingbirds.Lilium asiatic
Division VIII Classification: Longiflorum-Asiatic Hybrid Lily (USDA Zones 3-10, lows to -40° F.) These hardy, easy to grow hybrids derived from crosses between L. longiflorum (Easter Lily) and the more familiar Asiatics, Orientals, and lilium species add a wide splash of color between your Asiatic and Trumpet bloom times. Found in nearly as wide a range of color as the Asiatics (no near blacks yet) their petal texture is much heavier for extended bloom time. They multiply well and bulbs left undisturbed for two or three years often reach 10 to 12 inches in circumference or more. They all carry a light, pleasing fragrance.
